Debt – Equity Ratio Alos called financial LEVERAGE ratio in the U.S. There are three methods of calculatin this ratio, the being more common:
- the total liabilities of a company divided by the shareholders’ equity;
- the total long – term debt divided by shareholders’ equity;
- the total long – term debt plus the par value of preference shares divided by the par value of equity shares. All the three ratios measure a company’s solvency. See also LEVERAGE.
