Holding Period The period for which an investor has been in possession of a share; important for the computation of CAPITAL GAINS tax. A holding period of less than one year will not qualify as long – tem capital gains and the profits will be treated on par with current income. Any holding period exceeding one year will qualify for the advantageous long – term capital gains tax.
