Marketable Securities An item often featuring on company balance sheets, meaning assets which can be easily converted into cash; for example, government securities, short – term investments, and other money market instruments. These are shown at cost or current market value, whichever is lower. Also, stocks, debentures, bonds, etc., which can be traded in stock exchanges, as against non – marketable items. An example would be National Savings Certificate. Book – entry shares, for which no certificates are issued are also non – marketable.
