Saturday Night Special A sudden attempt at a takeover of a company’ by a public offer for its shares at an attractive price. The term was coined in the 1960s when a spate of such offers was made on Saturday – to take the management of target companies by surprise and giving the shareholders only a few days to consider the offer before the management could sway their decision.
