Standard & Poor’s Composite Index More broadbased than the DOW JONES AVERAGES, this index measures the price index of 500 widely held equity shares, mostly of the New York Stock Exchange. It is considered to be more representative to stock market trends than the Dow Jones Composite Index. The S&P index has 400 industrials and 100 other shares from transportation (20 shares), financial institutions (40 shares) and public utilities (40 shares).
