Value Added Additional value given to a commodity by means of labour or technology so that the character of the commodity is altered. For example, a completely knocked down piece of machinery, when assembled after import, has value added to it, or when a raw material has been converted into finished goods, value has been added. In VAT each stage of value addition is taxed, as is the ultimate consumer.
