Window Dressing Apart from the practice referred to in COOKING THE BOOK, this exercise is resorted to by mutual funds and portfolio managers before the half – yearly or yearly account closing when they switch from low – yield shares to high – yield ones, so that the funds’ net asset value (NAV) may appear impressive. If the market is moving up, the fund manager will try to put as much money into it as he can, while if the market is moving down he will sell some shares and put the money in interest – paying securities.
