Investment Company Shares (Open – Ended) The important open – ended mutual funds (See INVESTMENT COMPANY, MUTUAL FUNDS) in our country are those run by the Unit Trust of India, and the State Bank of India, which accept new depositors at any time of the year, except when the trust’s operations are closed for accounting purposes. The investments of the funds are well – diversified, to ensure low risk and good, but not spectacular, returns. One can become a member of the funds by buying into them, as one can cease to be a member by selling out of them. Being open – ended, the funds’ shares, called certificates, are not traded in he stock exchange
